5 Tips On Planning Your Wedding During The Covid-19 Pandemic

Planning your wedding can be stressful, planning your wedding during a pandemic is even more so!

As of March 15, 2020, the CDC has officially recommended the cancellation or postponements of weddings and/or large gatherings for the next 8 weeks in the US. (Read more about that HERE.)

The Covid-19 virus is greatly impacting the wedding industry as a whole, understandably, these are serious times and people aren’t sure what to do right now. I have seen so many of my peers in this industry post about cancellations left and right. I myself have rescheduled weddings recently because of the virus. I thought it might be helpful to give a handful of tips and advice on making it through this craziness right now!

****Please keep in mind, these are my personal thoughts and opinions from my own experience. This is most definitely not “the law of the land”. These are just suggestions and hopefully they’re helpful for those who just need some guidance on what they should do currently.

  1. Communication is Key

Make sure you keep clear communications with all your vendors during this time. Touch base with them and make sure everyone has a plan of action ready to help you if you need to reschedule. I would suggest creating an email group so communications are the same with everyone and it keeps everyone on the same page in regards to planning your day and possible rescheduling. It allows there to be understanding and transparency for all vendors involved in making your day happen!

  2. Emotional & Mental Health

Prepare yourself emotionally & mentally to have changes with your date that you’ve set. This is something that is effecting everyone in the wedding industry, we are all working to help our clients in every way possible with rescheduling their weddings. Try to keep yourself prepared for changes and open to those changes.

  3. Re-scheduling Your Date

Your wedding date is super important to you and we get that! If you find yourself in this situation, just know that we are here for you!! We understand the frustration. Most vendors are working hard to ensure that we have availability for rescheduled dates. If your wedding date is being affected by this pandemic currently, look into pushing it back several months or rescheduling for the following year on the same date. This is stressful we know, but safety and well-being for yourself, your guests, and your vendors is a priority for all.

  4. Inform Your Guests

Keep your guests informed of any possible changes. Let them be aware as soon as possible if you are in the process of changing your date. The better informed everyone is, the better chances you’re going to be able to reschedule and still have everyone you want to celebrate with you there as well. This will allow for rescheduling babysitters, time off from work, travel, etc.

  5. Remain Calm

I feel this is probably the most important piece of advice any of us vendors can give you. Please don’t make any permanent decisions on a temporary feeling! Rather than panicking and cancelling everything, gather your thoughts, your concerns, and everything that you feel needs to be addressed and write them down. Once you’ve done that, go down the list and address them one at a time. As stated in the first tip, communication is key! I am always available to chat with my brides and help them navigate their day. This is no different! Your vendors care and want to calm any fears you may have about rescheduling as much as possible. We are here for you and we are here to help! Try your best to stay calm and be optimistic. You’re marrying your person. That’s all that matters! The date may change, but the love and celebration will be the same!!

These are uncharted waters for everyone right now. We are all doing our best to navigate through this together. I just want to send out encouragement to all the couples, my photographer peers, and wedding vendor associates having to go through this right now. We will make it through this!

Much love to you all!!

East Texas Engagement | Jefferson, Texas | Josh + Kayce

I met Kayce for the first time while she was a bridesmaid at a wedding I worked for her friend back in October 2018! When she contacted me a few months later inquiring about my weddings, it didn’t click with me immediately who she was. We talked back and forth in our emails and we decided to meet up in person and discuss what they were wanting and just getting to know each other in general! So we set a date to meet up at Starbucks on February 9th (My birthday! It was meant to be! haha) and as soon as I walked in, I knew I recognized her but STILL couldn’t put my finger on it. Then she revealed who she was and how I knew her and it clicked! Mind you, the wedding party she was in was a party of 21 people! haha! I remember faces, but names were far gone for me! LOL

I was beyond ecstatic and happy to be working with her and her fiancee’, Josh. They are so in love and you can just see it in their whole engagement session. I loved seeing Josh get so involved in their session and really seeing him interact and bring out the brightest and sweetest smiles in her. These two are soul mates and there’s no doubt about it!

I can’t wait to shoot their wedding!! It’s going to be MAGICAL.

DFW Engagement | Downtown Dallas | Dallas, Texas | Kevin + Victoria

Let me just say, from the moment I met Victoria & Kevin, I knew we would be friends! They have the best sense of humor, they are so great to talk with, and I really enjoyed not only getting to meet them, but doing their engagements.

Victoria and I had discussed what style she wanted to go with for their engagements and she said she wanted something vintage but modern and classy. I immediately thought of Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s engagement photos—you can see some of their beautiful portraits taken by the infamous Alexi Lubomirski here in a published story from Vanity Fair.

The outfit The Duchess of Sussex wore was STUNNING and Prince Harry’s was a simple but sophisticated suit. I mentioned this to Victoria during our call and she instantly jumped on board and said it was perfect! Days later she’s sending me a dress that looks so similar to The Duchess'! I was impressed and so excited!!

We had so much fun walking around downtown Dallas finding some of the most unique and cool spots to shoot at. These two were not shy in the least with any of my prompts and they even had fun with their own ways of making each other laugh. Victoria just glowed the entire time and Kevin looked so proud to have her on his arm. I am beyond excited for their upcoming wedding next year! It’s going to be STUNNING!

Gruene Historic Town Engagement | New Braunfels, Texas | Taylor + Samantha

When Samantha first reached out to me about her wedding, we clicked immediately! She has the sweetest and most personable personality!! We talked for quite a while on the phone during her consultation, laughing and discussing ideas like old friends. Then we met in person at a local Starbucks in San Antonio and it just solidified our relationship! I could NOT WAIT for their engagements!! She had discussed doing a vintage styled look for their outfits and she showed up and DID NOT disappoint!! How adorable are they?? And their sweet fur baby just topped the cake for me! The small town of Gruene was the perfect backdrop for their session. It provided a variety of unique and fun setting for each of their looks. I couldn’t have asked for a better location to shoot in!

Prior to this session, I had learned that Taylor’s sweet mother had unexpectedly passed away. From what I had learned, she was so excited for their upcoming nuptials. I prayed and prayed that this session would be fun, help Taylor relax, enjoy the session, and most importantly, I wanted to take portraits that would have made his late mother proud. Although I never got the opportunity to meet her, I’m sure she will be with them through out this new journey and I hope she’s smiling and loving the love shown in these images between these two. Much love and condolences go to Taylor, Samantha, and his family. Thinking of you guys always! <3

DFW Engagement | Arrowood Events | Jose + Sophia

Finally getting to catch up with blogging and I know Sophia is over here like FINALLY!! haha!

I don’t even know where to begin with these two! They are some of the funniest and sweetest people I have ever met!! We had so much fun doing their engagements. The love these two share with each other is REAL. They are goofy, obviously comfortable with each other, like already been married for 50+ years kind of comfortable, and madly in love with one another and you can most definitely see that in everything little interaction they have with one another. I laughed so much during their shoot, and even had the pleasure of eating dinner with them and Sophia’s beautiful mother afterwards.

We did their engagements at their wedding venue, Arrowood Events, in Palmer, Texas. It’s a cute little cozy location nestled in the midst of trees right outside of Red Oak, Texas. The owners were so sweet and even ran in to grab us an umbrella when it started to drizzle on us for a bit.

These two are not only everything I’ve described, but they are genuine and open. I couldn’t love them more as my clients than I already do! They made ME feel like I was part of their little circle and I couldn’t be more thankful to have them as not only clients but as friends now too.

Sophia & Jose will tie the knot this October and I CAN NOT WAIT to capture it!!
